On Februry 21-22nd, the Sal Castro Memorial Conference on the emerging historiography of the Chicano movement was hosted by UCSB’s Chican@ Studies Department. The two day conference provided Chican@ scholars with an opportunity to present their work and have it discussed and critiqued by fellow scholars. It also featured a panel of former participants in the 1968 walkouts in protest of unequal conditions in the Los Angeles Unified School District. This year’s conference was dedicated to Salvador Castro, inspirational leader and organizer in the walkouts.
