I am happy to be joining as part of the new Bottom Line editorial board as Co-News Editor! I’ll be covering recent news stories as well as provide feedback for others doing so too. The aspect I like the most about TBL is the low barrier to entry for students to write and report in their community. When I’m not writing for The Bottom Line, I’m usually writing for fun, or reading to inspire that writing, or watching soccer.

My name is Maddie Cupples and I am a 4th year Art Major! I joined TBL as an opportunity to pursue and exercise my passion for graphic design. My main art mediums include printmaking, painting, and digital design. In my free time, I enjoy watching Dancing with the Stars with my friends, going to concerts, and carving out my next linoleum block for printmaking!

2nd year • English and Communications major

Hi there reader, my name is Tomas Flores, and I am a 2nd-year English and Communication double major on track to graduate in my 3rd year. I joined TBL in hopes of writing about what I love, which is all things pop culture. I am so glad I have gone from writing about it to now overseeing it and editing (and writing about it, too). I like to watch movies, critique, play video games, and listen to music/movie soundtracks. I also partake in the Pops Orchestra on campus and work at the dining hall, so say “Hi” if you see me around!

My name is Lola Sekon and I’m a 2nd year Writing & Literature Major at CCS. I’m so excited to be TBL’s new opinion section editor. I initially joined TBL because I wanted to try out a new form of writing, and now lo and behold, it’s safe to say that I fell in love with journalism. When I’m not reading, writing or editing, I’m usually solving online crossword puzzles, listening to music, online shopping, and taking walks around IV.

Hey, I’m Theo! I’m a fourth-year film major from Seattle, and I’m returning as TBL’s photo editor this year. I love all types of photography, from film to digital and in my free time I mainly shoot portraits and landscapes.

This is my third year on the copy team! In my spare time, I enjoy knitting/crocheting, thriller movies, and books.

I joined TBL as a copy editor because I’m a huge word nerd. When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading, making jewelry, baking, hanging out with friends, or going to the movies.

Hi! I’m Sophia Alvarado and I am a 2nd year majoring in Sociology and Environmental Studies. Joining TBL and has allowed me to explore my passion in journalism. Some of my hobbies include reading, baking, and hiking. I am really excited to be a part of our team this year!

My name is Corinna Kelley, I’m a 2nd year student here at UCSB doubling in English and Film! I am currently a senior staff writer for The Bottom Line and mostly enjoy writing for the Arts & Entertainment section. Outside of TBL I spend time painting, practicing yoga, and spending time with my beautiful housemates!

Greetings! My name is Simai, and I am a campus beat reporter here at The Bottom Line. My hobby is performing arts like acting, dancing, voice acting, and singing. I am excited to be at TBL, because I can get to experience what college-level journalism is like and it trains my critical thinking. I joined TBL, also because I am planning to minor in journalism in the future.
