UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) is home to four dining halls: De La Guerra (DLG), Carrillo, Portola, and takeout at Ortega, each with its own perks. However, only one continues to come out on top as the best: DLG.

DLG is considered one of the best dining halls on campus because of its location. DLG is located between five large campus housing buildings, making it the most reliable for a large majority of on-campus living students. In comparison, the other dining halls try to do the same for their respective regions. Carillo serves as a middle ground for the Manzanita Village and San Rafael Hall, and Portola serves as a close dining choice for Santa Catalina Hall.

Heading into DLG, you are greeted with an effective building layout that makes it simple to grab your food in one location and find seating in another. Plus, there are two large eating areas, both on your immediate left and right, with outside eating sections for those who wish to take advantage of the coastal breeze that UCSB has to offer.

DLG also does a stand-out job in bringing inclusive and robust meal options for all to choose from, whether it is the main dish station serving a rotating selection of meats, fish, or lasagna, or the side stations serving pasta, vegan options, Asian cuisine, salads, pizza, and more famously, a large Taqueria.

The Taquiera is one of the most popular sections at DLG as it allows students to experience the most authentic Mexican cuisine in any of the on-campus dining halls. Serving sizzling fajitas, tacos, rice, beans, and a rotation of other famous Mexican dishes.

Once you’ve finished eating, make sure you visit the delicious dessert section to get freshly baked goods like chocolate cake, cherry pie, and more. Right next to it is a large selection of self-serve ice cream. And I know what you’re thinking, yes, you can take the ice cream cone to go.

So, don’t just take my word for it. Whether you are staying at UCSB or just looking for an on-campus dining experience, give DLG a try.
