Ring, ring, ring! We have all snoozed our alarms, desperate for a few more minutes of sleep before we have to attend class. When we finally realize that lecture is in five minutes, we have to rush out of bed with no time for anything else, including breakfast. But what if breakfast was easy to grab and go? Enter MUSH, a solution to busy mornings. As college students, these little cups of overnight oats effectively provide us with our daily nutrients. I, along with so many others, eat this every day for breakfast. MUSH is plant-based, rich with protein, includes fiber, is gluten free, and has no artificial flavors. It is arguably the most convenient and versatile food to consume for breakfast.
MUSH was created in 2015, when co-founder Ashley Thompson wished to create nutritious food that followed her simple belief: “better outcomes begin with better food.” Inspired by her childhood oatmeal-and-cereal concoctions, she transformed her personal passion into a brand that could be shared with others. From humble beginnings to becoming the leading brand in its category, MUSH is a testament to how passion and purpose can come together to redefine how we eat breakfast.
Using non-dairy milk and offering over ten delicious flavors, MUSH continues to expand its reach. As a busy student juggling classes and campus activities, having MUSH in my fridge ensures that I always have something nourishing to fuel my day and keep me energized.
My personal favorite flavor is apple cinnamon, since it’s the perfect healthy start in the morning or a satisfying sweet treat in the afternoon. While I enjoy apple cinnamon straight from the cup, I often like to elevate it. I use another bowl, layering the overnight oats on top of Greek yogurt, sprinkling some cinnamon, and cutting some apple pieces to go in as well: the ultimate meal. The Greek yogurt adds a creamy texture to contrast that of the oats, while the extra cinnamon and apples add a burst of flavor, making it taste more indulgent.
Another great flavor to upgrade is the vanilla bean, which acts as the perfect canvas to add anything you want. In the past, I’ve added chocolate chips, granola, and peanut butter to create a tasty experience. Each flavor stands strong on its own, but they’re also versatile for any customization that you want to try.
In a world where convenience often means unhealthy food, eating MUSH allows for a nutritious alternative without making any major time and effort sacrifices.
