As I passed by the creepy houses during the Halloween season, I began to ponder about what is the best Halloween candy that trick-or-treaters receive. I don’t consume a lot of candy myself. So, whenever I get a chance to treat myself with spooky sweetness, I want to savor that delightfulness to keep the ghosts away from tricking me.

There is so much candy being collected in these plastic pumpkin-shaped buckets that it’s hard to determine the single best candy. So, for now, let me provide my thoughts on which is the best chocolate candy, as the top three most popular candies bought in the United States are chocolate candies. I’ll be ranking them based on their overall taste and how well they represent the Halloween spirit.

Let’s start with the classic Hershey’s chocolate bar. It’s solely a bar entirely made out of chocolate, nothing more and nothing less. There’s nothing much to it, unless it contains almonds or it’s a variation like Cookies ‘N’ Creme. There are other chocolate candies whose originals have more interesting textures and flavors.

How about Snickers? Besides a chocolate coating, it has peanuts, caramel, and nougat inside. It can satisfy your hunger, but can it satisfy your Halloween night sweet cravings? I think that it’s a solid option as the peanuts add a savory crunch to the bar. If you like trading candy with people, a Snickers bar is usually successful in being a good bargain for another candy.

One of my favorite candy bars has to be 3 Musketeers for its casual simplicity: chocolate nougat covered in chocolate. There’s something about the chewy and fluffy texture of the nougat that never fails to please my taste buds. Arguably, one of the most underrated chocolate bars, Milky Way, could be considered a better version of the 3 Musketeers bar. Even though 3 Musketeers has a special place in my heart, I can’t deny that the caramel in the Milky Way bar adds more to its simple sweetness.

Of course, I can’t forget everyone’s favorite: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Your friends love it, your siblings love it, even your parents love it. It’s an interesting delight of two cup-shaped chocolate pieces with a peanut butter filling inside; what a great combination of these two rich flavors. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are a top contender every time I eat them once in a while.

M&M’s were my favorite candy during my childhood. They’re really colorful and melt in your mouth when you bite them, giving you the sense of nostalgia when you visit your convenience store to grab a snack. It’s a chocolate candy that is easy to eat and share with your friends whenever they want to satisfy a craving in small or large quantities. It’s an easy pick for any holiday-themed party as the colorful palette of the candy shells opens up a world of possibilities, especially if it has the candy corn color palette for Halloween.

It’s interesting to see how each chocolate candy has something for everybody. But, if I have to choose one, it would have to be M&M’s. It’s easy to consume, fun to share, colorful, and it mixes well with other toppings like peanuts. It’s also a good addition to trail mix as it balances with the nutty and fruity flavors; it pairs well with a lot of things. So, the next time you go trick or treating, brighten your night with some colorful M&M’s.
