Police are looking for a man who tried to rob a University of California, Santa Barbara student Saturday night, an attempt that left the female student with a dislocated finger.
Authorities were notified when Sheriff’s deputies spoke to a “distraught” woman who was walking along the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive, Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kelly Hoover said in a statement.
The woman, 19, said she had been walking alone around the intersection of Fortuna Road and Camino Corto at around 10:45 p.m. when she was grabbed by a male stranger who demanded money from her. The man also told her he had a knife, though she didn’t see any weapon during the incident. When the student tried to run away, the suspect grabbed her arm, dislocating her finger, Hoover said.
The student described the stranger as a “tall, Hispanic male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark blue jeans.”
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information regarding the crime to contact the Isla Vista Foot Patrol at (805) 681-4179.
