On Oct. 2, at around 2 a.m., the residents of Isla Vista witnessed periods of electrical blackouts in their homes. The following morning a student reached out to The Bottom Line (TBL) with photos of a downed utility pole and an exploding power transformer that caused a loud noise and a bright flash on El Colegio Rd.

The student also reached out to TBL with photos of police cars responding to a single-car crash site down the road. Officers could not confirm whether the car was involved in the downed power lines or the transformer explosion.
