On Thursday night, firefighters responded to an Isla Vista apartment complex fire that was reported shortly before 9 p.m.

The fire occurred in a room of a second-floor apartment on the 6700 block of Del Playa. The fire was contained to a single apartment. Residents had already evacuated the building by the time firefighters had arrived and no other units were impacted, said Santa Barbara Fire Capt. Dave Zaniboni to Noozhawk.

Bystanders also reported seeing flames shooting out of the building, requiring firefighters to cut a hole on the rooftop of the building for ventilation.

The American Red Cross is currently helping any displaced residents. The Isla Vista Tenants Union has also asked for any displaced tenants to reach out to them as soon as possible as they will be working with the UCSB Community Housing Office and Wolfe and Associates, the owners of the complex, to assist tenants in finding new housing.
