The Pan-African Student Union (PASU) held the 7th annual PASU Culture Show on Saturday, May 14 at the University of California, Santa Barbara MultiCultural Center. Audience members and participants enjoyed a night of poetry, fashion, dance and food in a space that celebrated the diversity of African culture worldwide.
Multicultural and academic fraternity Theta Nu Kappa hosted a mental health awareness week beginning Monday, May 9. The week-long series of events, that included a fundraiser for the Santa Barbara Wellness Center and a screening of Disney Pixar’s Inside Out, focused on the importance of addressing mental health in the first-generation student population and the resources available through CAPS and EOP.
Thousands of students attended UCSB’s annual Extravaganza concert on Sunday, May 15. A tradition that began in 1979, this year’s concert had a record turnout that also included 45 ejections, 11 arrests and 22 medical emergency responses, according to the UC Police Department.
UCPD is on the hunt for a man they suspect was taking photos of women in a UCSB Library bathroom stall on Saturday, May 14. A UCSB Alert went out at 9:58 p.m. informing the community of a man seen putting a cell phone underneath a bathroom stall. Police describe the suspect, last seen skateboarding toward Isla Vista, as an Asian male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches, wearing a UCSB sweatshirt.

The Plains All-American Pipeline has been indicted on 46 criminal charges in relation to the 2015 Refugio State Beach oil spill. This includes four felony charges for the company and three felony charges for a company employee in Houston. The company also faces over $2.8 million in fines.
The Underground Scholar Initiative, a campus group that advocates for current and prospective students affected by the prison system, held the first ever graduation ceremony for 14 formerly incarcerated students at UC Berkeley on Sunday, May 15. The mayor of Berkeley, a former campus chancellor as well as a California state senator were among those in attendance.
