Help A.S. Fight for Your 12 units to Freedom

So hopefully you have heard by now that the Academic Senate of the UC system is trying to increase the minimum unit requirement per quarter to 15 units. Now I don’t know about you, but for me, 12 units is plenty of school work to get done in a mere 10 weeks, and I still end up falling behind. Are they not thinking about those college students who have to work on the side to pay for their education? What about those students with internships, community service, or even taking care of a family of their own? Although this does not apply to my overachieving friends who decide to double major and end up taking 21 units to still graduate on time, it still applies to the majority of students who enjoy their free time at the beach or whatever it is they like to do. I am lucky to be a senior, so hopefully I will be long gone before this comes my way, but for you freshman, I am terribly sorry. Do you know what your class schedule looks like for the rest of your UCSB education? The purpose of writing this article is to encourage all of you to come speak your mind on this subject before it’s too late and we have no choice but to take 15 units every quarter for the rest of our college careers. Come fight for your 12 units to freedom at the A.S. Town Hall Meeting.

It will take place on November 20th, from 5-6pm in the Corwin Pavillion. Still not convinced? FREE DINNER. Yes, you’ll even get some free food while doing something good for you and your peers. We will also be discussing and setting goals for A.S. and would love to hear student’s concerns, opinions, and expectations. No matter how you feel about the unit increase, or even Associated Students, we want to hear what you have to say. So come out, speak up, and eat well.
